Cyber Bullying DVD – Catch22

When 2engage Performing Arts approached Catch22 Ellesmere Port with their latest project ideas and, ten young people were asked what they wanted to change about their lives and what issues are affecting young people and their peers.  The children from Catch22 unanimously decided that they wanted to tackle the issue of Cyber bullying – A new form of bullying effecting young people all over the UK. Catch22 is a local charity with national reach, dedicated to helping young people out of difficult situations. They believe every young person deserves the chance to get on in life no matter what.

“Cyber bullying” is when a child or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.

Through a series of drama workshops funded by the Youth Opportunities Fund, 2engage explored the issue of cyber bullying with the young people and went on to produce a low budget DVD documentary  that highlights the effects of ‘Cyber Bullying’ and what to do if when it happens.  Ed Morris of 2engage stated “Primarily, it’s a resource made by young people, for young people.  It offers help and guidance for young people who are experiencing cyber bullying”.

Carrie Fisher, a project co-ordinator form Catch22 (www.catch-22.org.uk) added “traditional forms of bullying are usually confined to schools, so when a child returns home after school the bullying stops.  However, with the progression of technology and social networking, Cyber bullying is a form of bullying that can happen everywhere and at anytime”.

The anti cyber bullying website ‘do something.org’ recently stated that “nearly 35% of kids have been threatened online and almost one in five have had it happen more than once”.  The DVD is currently being put online and will be available to view soon.  There is also scope for a potential anti cyber bullying campaign aimed at primary schools to warn about cyber bullying; a pressing issue that needs to be confronted.

The DVD documentary is now available  WATCH IT HERE
